Yesterday, on a dry raod, doing about 40km/h, i almost rear-ended someone because of a momentary lapse in attention. I recovered and had to brake hard to avoid a crash. I am not sure if the ABS enaged or not.

Today, when i turn the ignition on, the ABS light comes on as usual and then turns off. However, once i have driven the 1994 Quest for 3-4 seconds, the ABS light comes back on for about 2-3 seconds, along with a ticking or clicking noise, and then boh the ABS light and the clicking noise goes away. They don't appear at any time during driving.

Any ideas what can be wrong?

I would inspect the wheel sensors at the front wheels, just in case during the hard stop the spindle didn't get to stressed and gave a little and touched a sensor to the reciter wheel.
It's just a random thought.

You'll have to get the ABS codes read.. I have no idea how to do it on a Quest though..
I think the Mercury Villager is a Quest in disguise, so you'd have to look around Nissan for a way to hopefully do it without a scan tool.

Also check the level of the brake fluid. It is possible the ABS brake light serves a dual purpose. FWIW--Oldtommy

Thank you for the responses, guys. I will look into the things stated in the coming days. The van isn't a daily driver, so it can wait.

EricF, the Villager and the Quest are the same vehicles. I think the Quest was manufactured by Ford for Nissan. I have a scan tool, but it didn't work on my Sentra the last time i tried. We will see what happens this time.
