Abnormal Engine Deposits Only On Rear Bank

He did say his PCV was clogged. Maybe now that it is changed it will go back to more like the front pics.

Most all transverse v-6 engines will show more varnish on the rear bank. Less air flow and hotter coolant temps. That Honda engine will be purring quite nicely 300K from now.

It is hard to believe the pcv was in fact inoperable because of deposits---but hey, I wasn't there so who am I to say no----BUT from the look of the insides I find it hard to believe there were deposits anywhere in that engine-which looks in great shape

Ahh it don't look too bad. Just varnishing. My forklift looked like that when I pulled the valve cover. Definatly sounds like a wasted pcv valve though. I change mine in all my cars every year. Cheap insurance

Thanks for the compliments on the condition of the engine guys!

Yes, it is slightly modded, i'll be adding a homemade catch can soon cause the intake mani seems to pool with oil.

Hopefully the PVC valve will help with the venting. Im just concerned about the color difference. The intake mani and EGR ports did have quite a bit of carbon build up at 100k so I cleaned that out followed by 2 seafoam treatments so that might have clogged up the PVC valve. No carbon deposits on the old plugs though

Honestly, it's because of the headers. The stocks have heat shields (IIRC) and your Comptechs are just open stainless steel. They radiate LOTS of heat, especially at idle or just after shutdown. They are cooking your rear bank because they are tucked away with little/no airflow, which is why you see more varnish in the back. My RSX-S engine bay temps were noticeably higher when I put on my stainless DC race header. If you are really worried about the varnish, think about wrapping your header. Since it's stainless it won't rust. The ceramic coated ones are a different story.
