AAA can pay for itself in discounts alone. 30% discount at lenscrafters, 7% discount @ NAPA, 10% discount @ ACME Auto (New England store);

The biggest benefit of it is NOT getting called to bail someone out. Earlier this year there was a buy 1, get 2 free sale. I covered my friend and her 2 sons for a $1xx something, with platinum service.

My parents used to have AAA. Only time they tried to use it was when they were test driving an older Mercedes diesel and the fuel gauge was not accurate and the owner did not tell them. (took it on a 50 mile test drive to have a known mechanic look at the vehicle) and of coarse ran out of diesel fuel. Called AAA and they said they did not transport diesel fuel because it is TOO DANGEROUS! lol so never again for us. I have a road side assistance with my cell phone for $4 a month. Don't really know the details of the service though.

No one has mentioned 3A insurance which is available in some states. Both auto and home. I have both and the auto is about 50% less than anything else I can buy in Texas.

I started with Amoco Motor Club, then switched to AAA when Amoco went out of business. I commute 100 miles a day to work, through wide open prairies, with no service stations or other towns in between. At the time, my dealership was 50 miles from my house (and no qualified mechanics in my home town). I've used AAA's tow service once and their locksmith service once. And on a lesser note, their passport photo service twice. Perhaps I'm not getting my money's worth on my limited claims, but I view it like any other insurance service - invaluable when you DO need it.

I have never needed them but I have premium care for rural areas.

I have had AAA forever..I generally call them when the battery goes dead..Since you can use it on any car it comes in handy..Was out with a friend the other night and his battery went dead and I called AAA and they installed a new battery within an hour..The battery was 130 bucks but worth every penny since it was after midnight in the rain and in a real bad area.

That's exactly the time and place a battery is supposed to die! It seems to always be that way.

I agree with the insurance companys RSA. Usually free on your police and more available from my experience. I had AAA for 20 years and the little that I used it, they often couldn't accomidate me as quickely as my insurance co's RSA could. So I left AAA and only have the ins co's RSA.

If I ever need a tow in access of the mileage limit, I'll pay it gladly as I haven't had any additional moneys comming out of pocket over all of these years..."Pay now or pay later"! I'll pay should/when I need to.

I know a guy,(I hate that saying..."I know a guy"!) that has AAA+ and pays it every year for the extra towing that is available. Only used it once/twice but has been paying it for years.
