A3 Rated Oil List, Help me here

So. I was reading the thread on Redline 5w-20 in the Enzo. And a link was posted to this thread:
HTHS

A point made in that thread was, as HTHS increases, wear of the bearings goes down.

Well, this got me thinking about what oils are A3 rated, which have a HTHS of greater than 3.5, so here is what I have found, and please, feel free to contribute anything else you can find.

Mobil 1 0W-40
Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w30
Mobil 1 Extended performance 15W-50

Castrol Syntec 0w30 (german castrol)
Castrol Syntec 5W-40
Castrol Syntec 5W-50
Castrol Syntec 10W-40
Castrol Syntec 20W-50

Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic 5w30
Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic 10w30

Amsoil European Car Formula Synthetic 5W-40 (AFL)

Remember, A3 is a self-reported spec. A few 5w-40s that carry industrial specs would make A3 if they wanted to list it. Mobil 1 5w-40 (Delvac) as well as Shell Rotella T synth. Personally, I don't think an oil that thick is the always the answer to low wear.

And I agree with you. Any 40 or 50 weight will have a high HTHS number.

I was mostly looking for the XW-30s with A3 ratings. What fascinates me, is the redline 5W-20, with a HTHS of 3.3, which is GREATER than Mobil 1's 5w30 and 10w30 HTHS.

I guess I am looking for the perfect oil: One that is very THIN at startup, Thin enough at operating temperature... but THICK under high stress conditions.

Valvoline MaxLife Synthetic Blend 10w-40 is ACEA A3, at least according to the big bold statement on the back of the 5qt bottle I picked up yesterday at Walmart.

their 10w30 only made ACEA A1.


btw.. this is the first syn-blend I've seen rated ACEA A3 and of course as such the least expensive to boot. (just don't tell them that. )

this was actually the least expensive (@13.97?) prior to bumping into the valvoline maxlife.

and yes... I understand not everyone is about least expensive, duh. but if between these two I'm curious which would be the best choice?

still kinda surprised to see a synthetic blend rated A3. basically I had to try it...

The SuperTech 10w30 Full Synthetic (GIII) is A3. $13.97 for 5 Qt.

I am not aware of a Syn Blend SuperTech A3.

I believe all the SuperTech Full Synthetic 10w30 is now marketed as being "Old Car Formula" and 5w30 as being "New Car Formula".
