I've heard it said that the lottery is the most efficient means of taxing the poor we've ever devised.

Seems about right to me.

No offense intended for those who choose to participate.

I could deal with that; then my wife and I could look at the "Ohio Welcomes You" signs in the rear view mirror on the way to relocating to TX, FL, NC, or VA.

There's a whole class of homeless (couch hopping) person who has a modest job, but spends all of his/her paycheck on fancy cell phones/minutes ..and scratch off lottery tickets. They actually hit on some relatively big payouts for the investment from time to time (like $500 here and there with a few $100 sprinkled in) ..but spend it all on more tickets. They can't get out of the experience bubble long enough to see the loser nature of the practice. Even if they hit some substantial amount (like $10k-50k) ..after the party that they would throw was over, would be plowed right back into the lottery seeking another big win.

Yes...a poor tax. Alcohol and tobacco are also used to administer poor taxes.

Hi gary, language skills returned? The "taxes" you mentioned, what they are is debatable, what is not is that they are self administered ones. If a thread on the "humor" forum has twanged to this, I feel less bad about my silps. I would still like info on the tickets, my birthday is coming up. Thanks ahead.
