DR. Haas, In reviewing your motor oil recommendations in your article entitled "Motor Oil 101", I noticed that for 20wt. oils you recommend Pennzoil in conventional 5w-20 and Motorcraft in Syn. Blend 5w-20. I believe this article is somewhat dated, and I would like to know if you still currently recommend these two brands for 5w-20 weight motor oil SM/GF4 ?

I would certainly use either oil in my Ford Expedition though others are just as good. I would not use the Pennzoil in my wife's Lamborghini but I keep thinking of doing so with the Motorcraft oil.

probably the Semi Synthetic distinction over conventional. MC is a very good value as far as OTC oils go.

Yes OTC oils are for your common Fords and Chevys. Prescription oils are for your less common, more alluring Lamborghinis and Piaggio's.
You see Chuck Norris uses Agip. Someone like you and me is limited to Pennzoil.
As for Haas, he is free with his wisdom and doesn't withhold any facts or data from us. His used oil analysis are made available to us just as soon as he gets the results. Don't you think if you were a chemist for some big oil company you would want to test 5w20 in a Ferrari to see if it is actually as stout as you wish the public to believe. Nevermind Formula 1 testing or Nascar(we all know that oil is not available to the general public), I am saying put your chips in the pot and run OTC 5w20(Redline is OTC...the first part of this post was for entertainment only) in a street legal italian supercar. Alas, the kicker, make the results public. Haas used oil analysis are probably being examined by Chinese Spy Scientists as we speak!

I used the Pennzoil 5w20 in my old Mercedes S600 sedan that has the 6 liter V12. I just think the MC is a little better. My brother has the car now and is running the Pennzoil 5w30. I think the car is over 100k. Since the car is high milage now maybe that "thicker" oil is more appropriate. The car has never seen the recommended 40 grade oil and I have driven it sporty the whole time I had it. My brother has shorter trips usually and I know he is heavy footed from the start.

Here is another Conoco Phillips product, like MC 5w-20, that exceeds MC on paper, that I am about to 'test' on a 244 hp Vtec engine made in the year 2006. All in the Doc recommended low viscosity of 5w-20.

Dr. Haas, what do you think? Anyone else? NO used oil analysis that I can see but there are plenty, including Dr Haas' promulgations of MC 5w-20.

06VetecV6, Are the spec's for the Motorcraft 5W-20 from the Motorcraft site? Last time I looked that site was quite a number of years old. I believe the Flash Point is more like CP's All Season Synthetic Blend.
