So much for objective reporting.

The pressure of ratings, profits and mindshare - *especially in today's 24 hour news cycle* - must be a terrible burden to news producers and suits who probably began their careers full of you-know-what and vinegar, bound and determined to change the world with the truth.

If news is a business, then they have responsibilities to shareholders to build and maintain a large audience. That the audience's preferences lie with outrageousness, sensationalism and unquenchable thirst for Brangelina is the undeniable, inevitable denominator to which newscasts must cater. I blame people; their apathy, civic irresponsibility and the damage to their minds and egos from all of those commercials that the TV shows keep ushering them toward, for the impossible choices that otherwise meritous newspeople have to live with.

Will it be any different from the Murdoch News?

The Hearst corporation is privately held. I believe Mr. Hearst probably has the say in what propaganda gets put in as well as is left out of all the Hearst media empire.

I don't see why people think the media is propaganda free just because it is not controlled by the government. I could probably count on both hands and two toes the families which control 95+% of all that you see, hear, and read in America.

Reminds me of the scene in "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington" where the media giants are all sitting around a single table where one of them remarks that he would never want to be in public office as he has more control from where he sits as owner of a large part of the media.

Here is a breakdown from their website.

George R. Hearst , Jr. , Chairman of the Board, Hearst Corporation
James M. Asher , Senior Vice President and Chief Legal and Development Officer, Hearst Corporation
David J. Barrett , President and CEO, Hearst-Argyle Television
Cathie Black , President, Hearst Magazines
Kenneth A. Bronfin , President, Hearst Interactive Media
Ronald J. Doerfler , Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Hearst Corporation
Steven R. Swartz, President, Hearst Newspapers, Senior Vice President, Hearst Corporation
Scott M. Sassa, President, Hearst Entertainment & Syndication, Senior Vice President, Hearst Corporation
Richard P. Malloch , President, Hearst Business Media

I keep seeing people here scared (and rightly so) of Government. There's a couple thousand years of history to reflect upon what "might be" on that issue.

There's next to no history for corporations, particularly in their legal citizens status.

Makes it harder to conjure up "what ifs" if there are only a couple hundred years of examples (albeit often not pleasant examples)
