Very easy to perform a fluid exchange on a 2014 Acura RDX.

Tools needed:
17mm 1/2" socket, extensions, breaker bar
3/8" quality rachet
17mm 3/8" socket with extensions (optional)
flashlight
transmission filler tube (sold at walmart for $4.50 USD
stepstool
ramps (optional)

The 2014 RDX is one of the easiest transmissions to exchange fluid.

The challenges are the filler opening is super tight- a breaker bar may be needed to bust loose- bust this loose before draining fluid to make sure you can in fact bust loose.

The fluid is very hard to get a funnel to route from a bottle into the transmission. The $4.50 USD transmission filler at walmart does the job exceptionally well.

Finally, if the RDX is flat, 3.3 quarts of fluid will drain out. This is a pain as 3.3 quarts requires measurements. If you drive the front wheel on ramps, 3.0 quarts comes out. Filling three quarts is exceptionally easier than 3.3 quarts.

Finally, the fill hole is easy to see with a light source and a stepstool Very hard to see without a light source and stepstool.

Very easy job with the common tools available.

Did you paint (seal) your garage floor or did it come that way?
It came that way. A can of brake fluid sprung a leak onto the floor. It dulled the garage floor paint.

In the coming days I will depart the U.S. for two years. While I am away, I am going to research how to either keep the floor nice or recoat the painted garage floor. I suspect I am going to be an abuser of the floor.

Getting back to the fluid change, was this the 1st time you performed this for wife's vehicle? i.e. reason the fill bolt was hard to get off?

So many questions. Alone? To where? For work? Witness protection? Covert oil change operations? Sabotage and replace synthetic oil jugs with Dino oil and return?

You will need to change your user name and add an E at the end or some sort of crazy accent mark for phonetics.

I am a judge for the international sand volleyball tournament tour.

Pro-tip: get the A/T fluid (not just engine coolant) to operating temp, then re-check the level. Honda 6AT's will do weird things when the fluid level is high. If the fluid level is correct, it may be at or slightly below minimum when cool.

Yes, this was the first time I did the transmission fluid exchange. Something I should have done years ago. I have had the fluid for no less than five years.

On a very positive note, I was able to purchase the fluid at pennies on the dollar because the deal was posted on BITOG. I have ample fluid in reserve that. I can exchange the fluid when changing the oil for years to come.

I've never used the actual fill plugs on my Honda's. It is always a big PITA to get to, so through the dipstick it goes, which takes longer, but less time than getting the stupidly placed fill plugs out.
