a few buffer questions...

ok i have the porter cable buffer... and with the one i have a polishing pad comes with it. Basically i want to be able to apply some scratchx, colorx, and wax with 3 of these polishing pads (the factory ones that come with the machine i have 3 even tho only 1 comes with it) now my question is, can i do that? i didnt want to have to buy the cutting pads and all that good stuff since for the most part im only gonna be putting wax on with this thing, anyone have any input about that? and i also heard it might not be a good idea to put scratchx on a buffer even tho some people said go ahead, any ideas on that?

ScratchX is formulated to be applied by hand. If you use the PC, apply it at a fairly low speed (#3 is prolly OK) and go slowly. Test it on a small area first to make sure everything works OK.

Frankly, ScratchX should only be used on certain spots on the car that need it, like a scuff on a bumper or something. I'm not sure I'd use it all over the car but it's your call.

I don't know about ColorX as I've only used it by hand, but like above, try it on a small area first. The wax is prolly OK to be applied by the PC.

Yeah, the white pad that comes with the PC is OK to use. Remember to use soap and water to wash it out when you're done.

You bought a $100+ buffer and plan on using on a car that I assume is worth at least $10,000 (maybe several times that - sorry, I have no idea what you drive) but you don't want to drop another $35 on proper pads? I don't understand. Compare some good pads to the thing that comes with the PC and you won't want that thing touching your car.

Also, you need pads of different densities for polishing, for applying wax, etc. Do some reading over at www.autopia.org - your car will be happy you did.
