A different Auto-RX question

I'm pretty much convinced that this stuff works. Enough testimonials on here to that effect. I used it in my Civic at ~95k when I was switching it over to Mobil 1.

My question is, does anyone know of any shops/mechanics who use it on their customer's cars? ie, has a mechanic ever said to someone, "well we could go in and replace that leaky main rear seal, but why don't we try this Auto-RX stuff and see if that takes care of it first."? Just curious.

Probably 99% of mechanics would lump ARX in with all the other snake oils (since they likely haven't heard of the stuff). Not to mention that they probably wouldn't recommend ANY treatment/additive in lieu of a multi-hundred dollar repair bill.

The problem I see with a shop using it is that the customer would have to come back in 1500 miles for an oil change and again in another 3000 miles. Most people wouldn't bother or want to pay for two oil changes so close together.

Auto-RX is being used by the British distributor of the product who also owns a auto repair business, he is using it exactly that way.

He is a member here and has posted in the past, just can't remember his name .

Might check auto-rx.com to confirm.

I think it's sellable if presented right. If a shop is doing the work, they don't need to go into details like don't use synthetic oil etc.

If you don't obsess over it like most of us do, the sales brocure and customer instructions are fairly simple.

Page 1, the benefits and sell.

Page 2, the customer instructions

Change oil and filter

Come back in 2000 more miles and change oil and filter once more.

Do not greatly exceed recomended 1,500 and 2,000 mileages.

Then, on page three of the brochure, cover the need to do two cycles if your car has over 100,000 miles on it.

We have a mechanic customer who specializes in Toyota-Honda cars, mostly old ones ( when he gets customer who can not afford mechanical repairs he Auto-Rx's there car (not for $24.97 either) this way he keeps customer ( no customer resistance on oil changes etc, he is grateful to be running ) and eventually owner has funds to replace parts.Auto-Rx kept vehicle on the road in the meantime.

I remember reading that someone who works pretty much only on BMW's has a regimine that involves Auto-RX. I'm not sure if it was Terry D. here or someone else over on one of the bimmer boards. I do remember that was a factor in me deciding to run it through my 540i.

I have used the product and I was happy with it...however, until the consumer can just put it in and leave it in for a normal oil change cycle (3-5,000 miles?) it will never, ever take off IMO.

The vast majority of people (consumers or shops) won't/can't be bothered by the regiment currently required.

The rinse cycle and all the hoops one has to jump through gets peoples eyes glazed. No 1,500 miles this, change that, refill this, 1,500 more miles then rinse that, you can use your normal oil here, but not here, etc.. WAAAYYYY too much hassle for the general buying public.

Just make the product so that you just put it in and that is it....even if the new formula is slightly less effective, just make it to fit the "normal" oil change schedule. Otherwise, sales will be mostly limited to just us crazies who have an oil habit.

Auto-RX is the ONE product that I definitely believe in. I had a small seal leak on my previous car and I cleaned the engine using Auto-RX. The seal leak stopped. I can't prove that Auto-RX stopped the leak but I do know that the leak stopped after I cleaned the engine with the Auto-RX.

There are other products that may work also-Lube Control and Neutra, for example. For a person who did not want to send the money for the Auto-RX Neutra probably would work okay.

There are a few other products that have impressed me over the years. Like some Lubegard products, for example.

But overall, I would say over 90% of all the stuff out there (engine treatments, oil supplements, and engine cleaners, and 'miracle' lubricants) are pure junk and a waste of money.

I am still amazed that I actually (after years of searching) probably found a product that actually does what it is supposed to do (Auto-RX). Thanks bobistheoilguy.com!

I personally havent yet met a mechanic who will want to sell me a $25 bottle of ARX and miss out on that wonderful $100 per hour labor.

I have however had plenty of mechanics tell me not to use 5 weight oil because its too thin and will harm my motor. I had an affable fellow once inform me that winter driving was really hard on cars and this nice mechanic recommended that I use a quality 15 weight or 20 weight oil to counter the problem.

Im quite glad he was replacing my brake pads instead of rebuilding my engine. But he seemed nice and helpful and pleasant with his advice. I liked him.

The overwhelming majority of mechanics are simply parts replacers and actually know relatively little about how it all works compared to an enthusiast. There are some that are truely knowledgable but they are clearly the minority.

key word here: enthusiast. ie, a cheerleader, an advocate; often without any scientific training of their own but one who swallows whatever tripe some internet expert dishes out.
