I became an Australian citizen today. I was given a little tree like this ---> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syzygium_smithii

Was a good day. It is a great place to be part of.

There were Indians, Canadians, Chinese, and who knows who else there.

I picked the scruffiest little tree from the box to give it a chance. I hope it makes it.

Congrats Crinkles.

They never gave me a tree when I became a citizen...they even said that the hospital had a "nursery", but didn't give out trees.

BTW, where you from ?

PM if you don't want to tell your birth country of their loss.

i took about 5 minutes to figure out what you are trying to say... that happens if you work 3 days over a longweekend

I've already let them know (unofficially) but I will PM you...

I did 14 hours on Sunday in my ongoing battle with Sommerfeld.

I was fried today, missing even the taunting of my workmates, nodding and saying "OK"

crinkles, congratulation on your citizenship to Australia.

Congrats and good luck.

I see from your profile that you are an engineer. There was a time when America had requirements for new immigrants.

How difficult would it be for a Yank to get Australian citizenship? I have cousins there if that would matter.

Australia has pretty strict immigration laws no matter where you are from... not sure if having distant family would matter much, you could always check http://www.immi.gov.au

I know that even though I was married with children (wife and kids australian) it does not give you automatic right to permanent residency and definitely not citizenship...
