On my 2014 focus ive had ac freeze up issues on it s8nce day one. It would do it on far drives usually cruising down the highway for around 100 miles. It would do it on 1 or 2 fan speed and on max or regular a/c.
The dealer had previously evacuated and recharged the system changed the expansion valve then the evap temp sensor and now the relay. I noticed today the 0ressures were a little low, it took a very small amount of refrigerant and the pressures were then in the normal range. I assume it has been checked so many times that it became a little low. After that i took it 155 miles all the way from where we live to past Branson mo and then drove all the way back i kept it at the operating conditions where it has always failed in the past. Surprise surprise it never froze up you could watch the temp in the vent vary a few degrees every now and again which meant the compressor was destroking as necessary. So at this point i can only assume that its fixed. Its been such a continual issue that a bad relay is hard to believe. Its hard to even be confident that its fixed. But it didnt act up in 300 miles and anytime you went on an extended drive before you could guarantee it would act up. All the headache and a 5 dollar 2 second Relay job is all it might have been. Im simply amazed by this.

Glad to hear the problem is possibly solved.
So the dealer believes it was a defective relay?
Was there a TSB about a defective relay? What does your
R/O say.

It certainly seems that your dealers there are TERRIBLE and
incompetent to boot. More reasons why people hate having to go to the dealer for ANYthing at all, sales, or service.

Yes they believe the relay was getting hot and sticking. The dealer i am currently dealing with is oretty good. Theyre actually trying anyway.

I'm so happy for you ram_man!

Lots of people on here are ribbing you as is somehow you brought the issues upon yourself with this vehicle, when it is obvious it is just one of those things where the cloud seems to hang over your head and there is nothing you did to deserve it and nothing much you can do to get rid of it either. The design of the Focus itself is great and they are nice cars to drive as long as they are working properly, I hope you get it sorted out, and I'm also pleased to hear that at least this latest Ford dealer seems to be genuinely interested in making the car right and pleasing the customer.
If they do the right thing and clear everything up give them a public thanks here on BITOG. I despise most dealers because most are horrid, but when there are good ones they should be praised and also named publicly.

Keep us posted.

No it didn't i tried that before with no difference. Pretty much the same design to so its surprising that both vehicle dont have the same issues.

I sort of find it hard to believe that the addition of a little refrigerant solved the problem. Being low will cause lower evaporator temperatures but I suspect that there's something else.

I hope it is solved, but keep watching it closely...

Well a little refrigerant and a relay. I can vouch for the pressures being a little low and me giving it a little freon did increase pressures to a normal range. Honestly ill be skeptical for awhile no matter what fixed it. Just because its been such a headache.

Well wishful thinking the a/c froze up again yesterday afternoon. I wonder if it'll ever get fixed.
