Could not get the oil filter cap loose on 2009 Camry 3.5 because dealer oil change gorilla overtightened it. Other than unusual situations such as that, I always change the filter. 45 y/o

Ive reused a filter once only because I wanted a super quick oil change and didnt want to pay for one at the dealer and I didnt want to use anything but OEM filters at the time. But only 6k were put on that 1 filter, thats not all too bad.

Other than that time I will NOT reuse a filter because there is no possible benefit to not replace it. Sure you can save yourself a couple bucks and get a meal at McDonalds and thats not good for you either. Nothings better than spinning on a fresh WIX or Purolator anyway so dont rob yourself of the fun. Im 22yrs old.

It's not left in use to save a couple of bucks.

Any savings is coincidental. Someone may be using a $6 filter over two OCI's where a $3 filter would work.

It's a mismatch (in some cases) between filter life and oil life.

The service, basically, dictates how long your filter lasts.

+1 I prefill them as much as possible so that dry run is just about eliminated anyway.
