My 99 Sunfire is hard to start. Sometimes the car will fire on the first crank some times you will have to crank and let off and try again.
I have replaced with in the last month. spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel pump and fuel filter with no change.
What else could cause this problem? The car runs fine once it starts up.

does it have the 2.2 ?

My 98 Cavy had this issue and it was one of the two boxes that the spark plug wires connect to (tired and dont recall the name) only one was going bad and the car would on occasion start hard, other times fire right up.. once this expensive little box got replaced all was perfect.. somebody help me out , what am i talking about (YAWN)....

Yeah I was thinking coil packs or maybe the ignition module

Sometimes they die slowly. Other times not so much.

+1

If it is cranking the same whether or not it starts means the starter is probably not the issue here.
If it balks at starting, spray starting fluid to see if it pops right away. This quick test shows if it is a fuel or ignition problem.
