I have a 99 nissan Altima that seems to shift from park to drive or reverse with a clunk when cold. It will only do this when it gets real cold outside and it has been sitting. Otherwise it runs and shift perfectly fine any other time. It has been well maintain with regular fluid changes and no towing. Almost all highway miles.

Thanks for the help!

I hope that is all it is. Seems to happen when it sits for a while when the temperature is below 30 degrees. Above 30 it never seems to happen.

Could it be the car is in a faster idle at that time? I have an '01 Altima. Seems to do the same. Not sure I'd worry about it if it stops when the car and/or outside temps get warmer.
