alright looking for the best oil for a 98 subaru outback with the 2.5L

car has 180k miles on it. after taking the motor apart you could still see the hone marks on the cylinder walls.

the motor is in tip top shape and dosn't drip or leak any oil. and good oils i should look at.

180K miles, you do alot of driving. Any GF-4 SM rated oil should do very well.

Does it consume any oil?
If so, try Valvoline Maxlife

Any good 5w30: it's the oil called for, isn't it?I have a Subaru and my family members have a couple...they do fine on almost anything that is the correct weight and specification. Personally, I use Havoline, but, I have a cache of GC 0-30 I'm going to run at my next oil change in about 800 miles.

well im asking for my father. he bought the car with a bad headgasket and pulled the motor and fixed all that. did timing belts gaskets and all that. the previous owner commuted a looonggg way to work every day on the highway. the car is perfect really, its soo clean its crazy. he disn't kow what oil was used.. probably had it done at a lub shop. im trying to get him to use the recomeneded oil for it and i was after the best i can get.. he proabably won't got synthetic even though the car could take it..

thanks fellas.

also the car as far as i know uses no oil.. no leaks or burning. I'll have my dad ask the owner.. a co worker if he knows what oil was used. might be good to just continue using what was in it.
