I would hate to misquote Frank (creater or A-rx) but I think I read a post where he said Wally ST (dino) is an excellent choice for the clean/rinse.
98 Corolla Consuming Oil

yep, just use a dino oil. Using supertech in my honda and valvoline in my girlfriends corolla.
My girlfriend just traded in her '99 VE 3 speed auto POS about 6 weeks ago. Here is a post of mine from last year...
Man, your consumption sounds just like my girlfriends '99 Corolla! After the first 1500 or so miles, it just eats and eats oil. Probably 4-5 quarts of make-up oil after 3000 miles. I typically use Shell 5w30 or Chevron 5w30 if I can get a rebate deal at Checker or SuperTech HM 5w30 just to not deal with rebates.
One ARX treatment, rinse and refill slowed oil consumption from about one quart every 600 miles to one quart every 1200-1500 miles. High freeway RPMs and what I just learned from the 1st post on page one here must be the reason why.
OT: I still do not know how a 1999 vehicle could not come with intermittent wipers or a tachometer. I know, I know, it was just a VE (base model) but man!
Oh well, her new 5 speed auto Honda Fit Sport I know revs alot less at 65+ mph!

I had a 98 Corolla that "consumed" oil also. Bought it at 30K and it would go through may a quart every 750 miles. Only thing that slowed it was going to a 15W-40 that cut the consumption in half. Car ran great and had it until 186K miles and a kid totaled it while it was parked in front of my house. Auto-RX is not going to cure the issues with these cars. Just get use to being on a schedule to top it off once a week and move on with life.
