'97 Expedition owners manual confusion

In my wife's '97 Expedition owners manual, on page 213 Capacities and specifications, Motorcraft Part Numbers, it lists the oil filter as Motorcraft #FL-820-S. This is what I use.

But, flip forward to page 217, Capacities and specifications, Lubricant specifications, it lists the oil filter as Motorcraft Longlife Oil Filter (FL-1A)

What gives? Are these two filters interchangeable? If so, which one is better?

Interesting that they have this error in the owners manual. I lost the Ford rational on filters when the modular engines came out. I mean the specs for the bypass valve aren't that much different that they needed to worry about the filters getting mixed up on their various engines ..or so I reason.

For future reference... Sometimes you can get Baldwin to puke out different numbers since they usually offer most in short, long, racing, etc. You then can take those numbers back to Wix and see what it comes up with.

Apparently your filter is the only one offered.

Not uncommon! My wifes 2001 Mustang cobra manual says oil fill cap. is 5qts. But the car takes 7 qts. to reach the full mark on the stick. I wonder how many people are using that old GT spec and not checking the stick?
