Previous thread - Coolant Fitting Corroded This was fixed with no leaks after idling for about 30 minutes. However, 20 miles down the road, the water pump takes out with coolant everywhere and the belt off but not broken. It is now in my garage. I'm going to also install the coolant bypass kit p/n F7DZ-8522-AB along with a new pump & belt (hopefully the pulley is ok).

Options:
$26.79 Napa reman unit with lifetime warranty
$28.99 Cardone reman Ford unit with lifetime warranty
$31.99 Cardone? (AutoZone special order) new unit with lifetime warranty
$36.98 new ASC (Carter?) unit with lifetime warranty
$36.99 new Master (O'Reilly) or Duralast (AutoZone) unit with lifetime warranty

Since it will take a couple days for the bypass kit to arrive from Mercury, no hurry with the WP in regards to ordering or taking from stock. Recommendations?

I installed a new A1 CarDone pump onto my uncle's 91 Grand Voyager last summer. It was only $20 from my friend at the local parts store.

No problems to report.

I'm perplexed; what is a coolant bypass kit and what are you bypassing?

How much for OEM water pump (and no lifetime warranty)?

Do you think something from the repair seized up the pump? Otherwise, that's SOME coincidence...

OEM warranty pump is ~ $125 with no warranty whatsoever unless the stealership installs so no thanks. A reman part with Ford Motorcraft p/n on the casting is $28.99.

I have learned that the car was making noise from this area prior to the repair. Not coincidence just order of events.

The coolant bypass kit information can be found here.

But it isn't the casting you need to worry about: it's the bearing/seal. Is there any way to find out more info on the rebuilders and their reputation, materials, and techniques?

I understand that the soft parts are the critical components. However, finding info about each rebuilder is nigh impossible me thinks.

Rockauto has Motorcraft WP for $70 (plus others). I have no idea if it's OEM or rebuilt, but that might be another choice if you can wait for UPS.

Thank you for the link.

Rebuilt is plenty good for this car. No sense in putting lipstick on this pig. In addition, Rockauto doesn't specify if the Motorcraft WP is a rebuild or new. I also don't know their warranty on it.

who told you that? motorcraft parts have a 12mo/12k mile warranty. no dealership install required, just original sales receipt.
