Just trying to find out .I have Mobile 1 Full synthetic in it and don't want to harm the Yellow metals. Thanks Oiler.

If it doesn't have sulfur in it, it should be fine. I had the same concern about my 96 Cherokee. So I got Amsoil, after being assured it would work fine, and it has so far.

Markc this is what's on Mobile's website.;;

Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-90 combines wax-free synthesized hydrocarbon base oils and a specially designed extreme-pressure, limited-slip, sulfur-phosphorous additive system to provide a significantly higher level of performance in rear axles and differentials versus conventional fluids. Greater film strength at higher operating temperatures, reduced fluid friction and low-temperature application down to -50ºC provides significant advantages versus conventional mineral oil formulations.

. So it does state it has Sulfur -phosphorous additive in it. So really what's that translate in Plain english as far as I am concerned in my Tranny? Oiler ??

What is the requirement from the owners manual?
If you don't have the manual, visit some of the Toyota forums or list the vehicle so that someone here with it can dig up the info.

If it requires a GL4, then use it or a GL4-safe fluid.

If it specs GL4 or GL5, then don't worry about it.

I believe the M1 gear oil is buffered to inhibit the corrosive properties of the sulfer additive, and has proven to be OK in transmissions with yellow metals. Being a GL5, they can not recommend it 'legally' for a trans that doesn't spec GL5 only.

Most top-tier oils have Extreme Pressure (EP)

additives to prevent gear failure at high loads. The Sulfur-Phosphorus EP package is the basic EP package for most gear oils. Most GL4/GL5 gear lubes today have non-corrosive EP additive packages.

Our MTL-R is a 75W90 with a host of EP and anti-wear additives.
