I would like some input on 9005 high beam bulbs for my 08 tundra. What i want is a little more light on the highbeam, than oem bulbs. I have done some researching at the local shop and online as well. I found the following:

1) Piaa: xtreme white plus and INTENSE WHITE.

Will these last longer than silverstar's. Since they produce more light as they say should I be worried about the electrical system and lights. I do know they cost is up there and are they worth it. Pro's/Con's

2) Wagner Lighting 9005 Headlight Bulb
TruView Bulb's

Thoughts on these bulbs as well, anybody using them, and how long have they lasted. Would these be an improvement or the oem in the truck.

If there is any other bulb that is better than what I have searched let me know.

I use Night Hawks, 9007. They are whiter and brighter than my OE lights were and even more so on high beam. They also cast the light a lot further than my OE bulbs did, on low and high beam. I got mine at Walmart.

I had Silver Star Ultra's before these Night Hawks and honestly I can't tell a difference. The Silver Star may have been just a tiny bit more of a white light but for the money, Night Hawks are just as good for half the price of Silver Stars. My Silver Stars lasted over 3 years and I expect the same or better from the Night Hawks. I wouldn't think you would have any wiring or current draw problems with whatever new bulb you choose. I would think the only time that might be a concern is if you went with HID's.

My OE lights were really yellow and not bright at all.

PIAA lights are whiter, NOT brighter. Light color is not light intensity. You can't get "100 watts of light from a 55 watt bulb". It's just plain physics. Adding a relay to your circuit may give you a lot better bang for your buck. A 10% drop in voltage gives you a 33% drop in light! Go to the Daniel Stern Lighting website, read the tech section and SAVE YOUR MONEY.

Buy a pair of Toshiba HIR1 bulbs.

9005 @ 12.8V, 65W, 1700 lumens, 320 hours
HIR1 @ 12.8V, 65W, 2530 lumens, 320 hours

The 9011 HIR1 base will require a very simple mod to fit. Can be done with a nail clipper or a file.

My Subaru uses 9005 highs, and I installed the 9011 HIR1s 4 years ago.

HIR or Philips X-Treme Power will be a great step over the two bulbs you listed. I strongly recommend the HIR. They are sold on Ebay, but that guy rips you off on shipping big time. But he also marks the tabs that have to be cut.

You can get the HIR from here: http://store.candlepower.com/9011.html
but trimming the tab will require measuring.

Philips dopes not make the Xtreme Power in a 9005.

That said, buy the HIR. They will performance better than any of the bulbs listed in this thread and will last longer too. You will not be disappointed.

yep, i just droped $80 on two pairs of them, well worth it.

Unfortunately if they are DOT compliant, they are virtually the same.

Other than using a blue coating on the glass to fool your eyes into thinking they are brighter, DOT bulbs are all the same output.

NON-DOT compliant bulbs ARE brighter but require heavy duty wiring and relays to be installed.
