What engine?

And.. wow, yes, that is a good oil/engine.

I wonder if he used 10W-40, like a lot of people like(d) to do?

Still a good old 3800 V6 under the hood. Those in 1990-era LG3 form were low-power, but bulletproof. That car will still likely get 26-27 mpg highway. Not bad for a 23 year old car.

Not surprising synthetic does not mean more service life. Good story.

My 92 cutlass ciera 3300 owners manual scornfully advised that 10w40 was an absolute no-no. 10w30 was and is the stuff for 90 degree V6s, per them.

Though a modern 10w40 won't shear down and turn to goo. Incidentally both motors sound GREAT running.

My dad had a 90 Delta 88 that had over 500,000 miles on it when he gave it to my nephew who drove it for awhile, then sold it,and it's still going strong! It's had Pennzoil Conventional 10w30 at 3k oci's since new.

Maybe the result of lax quality control. When I worked at a Chevy dealer years ago, we got in a Citation that had Chevy trim and badges on the left side and Pontiac Phoenix trim on the right side! I also saw a brand new '81 Caprice with an Impala front clip!
