8L John Deere 2 Cylinder Model D Engine Machine Work 7 inch bore

All John Deere Ag tractors in Waterloo, Iowa until the mid 1960s and still make all or virtually all US Ag tractors in Waterloo. I grew up at 15 miles from there and know a ton of people who work or worked at John Deere and know several collectors that have had their restored tractors displayed at the John Deere museum on Waterloo. We still own my Dad's first tractor, which was an unstyled 1936 B and we have another B that never left the area of my hometown and we are only the third owner. The old John Deere two cylinder tractors are really neat.

My dad was really into the John Deere two cylinder tractors. He passed away, but the two poppin’ Johnnies are still at my mom’s. The restored unstyled 1937 or ‘38 long-frame model B is garage-stored and would run if the fuel system was cleaned. It looks really nice with the round-spoke wheels. I know the engine isn't stuck. I can’t say the same for the unrestored ‘47 or ‘48 Model A outside. I really don’t know about that one, and the flywheel is enclosed so I can’t spin it. I’d like to bring them home but the logistics of bringing them to Texas just don’t make sense.

Something I found weird, I was just recommended a video wherein John Deere equipment is bad, the company evil, and don't even think about trying to maintain John Deere equipment as an owner, as it's not allowed.

I have never watched videos pertaining to farming, except maybe some tractor pull videos years ago.

So it made me wonder if John Deere is some evil empire as the video alluded?

You are viewing a thread about tractors... Google (or your preferred browser) used this to solicit a video to you because someone paid for that video to be solicited to people who read about tractors. Pretty normal for 2026

Yes, I am now. But last night when that video was suggested, this thread didn't exist.

They said something wrong in the video, "The 20 series replaced the 2 cylinder tractors", that is incorrect. The 10 series "Next Generation" was the replacement of the 2 cylinder tractors. The 10 series came out in 1960. The 10 series had in-line 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder gasoline, LP, and diesel engines, with diesel being far more popular. We still have a 1961 4010 diesel that I personally probably put 5,000 hours before I went to college. I lived on that thing during the spring, summer, and fall.
