I don't know much about oil.
I have a 06 Sentra with 112k on it.I put Super Tech synthetic in it with a regular Purolater filter and ran it for about 8k and just recently changed it and put in Pennzoil Platinum with a Purolater pure one filter. I bought better stuff this time because Peps boys had a good deal on it.I live in Colorado and in the winter it can be below 0 degrees in the morning and summer it can be high 90's and sometimes into the 100's.I do a lot of high speed highway driving.
So the main question is 8k between changes OK ?
Thanks

Not with supertech.

Tell us your driving habits. Is it mostly highway or all in town? How many miles is your daily commute?

PP can usually do 8k no problem if its not all short trips or something. But I would run the first fill to 5k and then try to stretch it out to 7500 with PP

Yes, please, and post it here.

ST Synthetic might be ok actually. I've run it out to 5000 miles and it still had plenty of additive left. So with a UOA it could possibly run to 8k, especially with all highway. You never know for sure until it's tested.

I agree that PP is probably a better oil, but scoffing at ST without any evidence...

Dnewton is doing 10000 miles in his villager on supertech conventional, which renders your statement ill informed
Op. 8000 miles on pp should be easily achieved however I would get a uoa just to be sure, but I really don't think it's an issue

Dang right im ill informed. I dont search uoas for an oil made by the cheapest bidder.

My statement is purely personal opinion. Without uoa I wouldn't push ST past 5k in anything. But a UOA costs more than the oil so why bother at all?

I know Nissan's can be rough on oils but I'm not sure the Sentra is one of those engines. ST synthetic isn't bad oil at all. I'm running 6k with it in my Camry and feeling good

But 4 banger 2.2 isn't exactly tearing it up! To each his own of course.

OP if your extending to 8k I'd get a UOA once just to make sure I was good to go.

Your engine is not a known sludger and you're doing mainly highway miles - PP or PU for 8k miles is fine w/o UOA. What's the owners manual say? 7500 normal / 3750 severe? That would be on conventional. Syn @ 8k is no problem.

Because you can do the UOA once and if it looks good, buy oil less frequently.

Hey thats cool. Dont take my personal opinion as data, because im primarily a SOPUS fan, but I just always thought of ST as a cheap oil for short ocis. QSUD is right next to it for $3 more and is well worth the money. And to tell you the truth, I would feel a lot better about pushing it out to 8k.
But like I said these are my personal opinions, not fact and not based on data of any kind. It just seems ST is made by the lowest bidder and I like to buy oil made by trusted blenders like SOPUS, ExxonMobil, Ashland, and Chevron.

It depends on the car. A direct injection or turbocharged engine might not be able to go 8k miles on even excellent synthetics. Some can when backed up by a UOA.

For a Sentra, I'd read the owner's manual and change according to its schedule. If it says 7500 miles for normal service, do that.

Man ST gets dogged again. I don't think 8k would be a problem on ST synthetic either. It is a big savings over PP here in NY at WM. It is back down to $17.xx for the 5 qt jug again near me. I may play it safe though and do 7.5k if it were me.
