Chain issues were 00-03.

Plug launch issue isn't nearly as common on the Panther cars as it is on the trucks. However, IIRC, it is the PI headed cars that had the problem, so it isn't applicable to the one you are looking at.

Note: a 4.6 will go 200,000 miles with bad valve seals...it will just smoke on a cold start and after prolonged idling. Halve the plug-replacement intervals and drive it. It will usually pass a smog test easily as long as it's fully warmed up.

From experience at a livery outfit: 1995 was the first year for a freshened interior ("batwing" steering wheel hub, rotary HVAC, 1.5-DIN stereo, I think new door panels). They seemed to have a bit of a problem with airbag clocksprings. Easy check: if it's bad, the airbag light is on, the horn and cruise control (if equipped, it was NOT standard on P71's) are dead. Not a difficult fix, but it won't pass inspection until it IS fixed.

I would be a LITTLE concerned about the transmission with 195K...though with 195K, it has PROBABLY been replaced or rebuilt already.

Also, if you care: many police Vics of that era didn't have anti-lock brakes.

My two cents concerns how the thing has been used.
If it has been in DD service for the past year or so, it might be a good bet.
If it's sat unused most of the time, then all bets are off.

well that didnt work out either. had an intake gasket issue. i found a clean looking 94 escort wagon 99,000 miles "apparently" but the auto transmission makes me nervous

The slushbox is not that great of a concern.
The yards are full of replacements you can pick up cheap.
If the car seems decent and the price is right, it's worth a look.

The 20 mpg estimate is a fantasy. You would probably be better off with an early 80's F150 2WD with a carb'ed 300/6.

I know from your previous posts that you don't seem to be in an area where there are many good "1000 cars" to choose from, and that can be a problem.

Good luck.

p.s. You can figure any 4WD is going to end up costing you a lot more to maintain &/or repair.
