In my opinion, the drivers test needs to include a wet skid pan where the instructor/observer, at some random point in time, grabs the steering wheel and puts the car into a large sideways skid. The operator has to recover the car from the skid in order to obtain his license.

Driving is a lot more than steering, braking, and parallel parking.

There's texting, drinking coffee, applying makeup *while* steering, braking and parallel parking.

The sad part is, even though I'm just joking ... it's true.

An actual emergency test would be a great idea.

What amazing is they do all those texting, drinking coffee, applying makeup, balancing check book ... at the same time *while* steering, braking and parallel parking.

Parallel parking these days consists of driving the SUV UP on the curb and back down to fit it in the spot.

And into the car behind them.

I used to work downtown and every time I was downtown I'd see at least one person in an SUV back into another car.
