Since Mitsubishi is advertising a $3,500 rebate, I'm gonna go out on a limb and suppose that is what the dealer is referring to as "customer cash."

$12,000 plus TTL, or about $13.5k, out the door for a new car with the features I can't live without (Bluetooth for hands-free calling) around me is pretty compelling. At that price, it's almost worth it for something new with a warranty over a used car.

Although, at that price point there are a fair number of used cars that are quite a bit nicer on the inside. None of those are city cars, except used Fits with a zillion miles on them. For the right buyer, it would indeed be the right car.

Drove it for 30K miles then gave it to my dad who drove it to 140K before he totaled it. The car never broke down once. Just regular maintenance, tires and wiper blades.

I don't care for most Mitsubishi cars. I do like the ugly little Mirage though. As for this brand smoking? I've never seen that. But like any car....if not taken care of they will typically blow smoke. Usually it's people that can't afford a decent car so they buy a beater...then continue to treat it like a beater. Or, they buy a new, inexpensive car at super high interest rates...then don't ever change the oil or take care of it. That kind of car owner tends to drive a smoke belching car. I've seen almost new Honda's and Toyota's doing this because the owner has a brain the size of a garden pea.
 
Mitsubishi has relatively so few cars on the U.S. roads these days that if 9 out of 10 vehicles that smoke are Mitsus, somebody must be putting diamond stars over other cars logos.

You guys are probably correct.

It was hard to imagine that a new car can be bought for almost 50% less than MSRP after all discounts and rebates.

If Toyota has Corolla with similar discount, sale price of around $11k from MSRP of $20k, they can run their factory 24/7 and still can't make enough to satisfy demand.

It definitely wasn't a Brat. This was in 1993. Pickups weren't the size they are now, but it was a full-size pickup for the time. He T-boned the passenger side and was making a left turn (while running the stop sign), so he wasn't going super fast. It demolished the side of the car. If it had hit my side, I think I might have had some injuries but doubt I'd have died.
 
I love my 2014 Mirage ES CVT. Not a single problem with it in the 2 years I've had it, and I've traveled cross-country for thousands of miles in it without a hitch either. No problems merging into expressway speeds either.

Averaging 52mpg combined here, no oil being burnt, no exhaust fumes I have ever smelled; very easy, uncomplicated and inexpensive to personally maintain, and it has a very roomy engine compartment to work in. I love the I3 - it does have the grumble of a 6-er!

I also love the mild look of the car: I don't particularly care for the aggressive look of most cars these days - they can look outdated really fast. The soft suspension also gives me a great, smooth, silky ride.

I don't have pretensions of being a race car driver, and all I needed was something basic and reliable to get me from A to B, and, with its 10 year warranty, the Mirage is it!

Funny to say, but the inline-3 in the 1989 Subaru Justy, 5spd, 4x4 my brother bought new sounded really cool too. It had decent power and was carbureted even!

It's hard to believe that car actually exists. If you go to that dealer they will tell you it's already been sold. Yes illegal-but have reasons to believe it happens.

Comfort in the Mirage is actually much better than my previous 7th gen Honda Civic or 5th gen Mustang. I didn't get any sore muscles like I used to in the Civic or Mustang while driving cross country. The seats in the Mirage are pretty firm, and I love that.

Climate control is great too - the A/C in the Mirage is much, much colder than either the Civic or Mustang.

I don't think back/muscle comfort is limited to the quality of the seat cushion ... I think the lesser amounts of EMFs given off by the smaller engine plays a significant factor too.

I would probably never buy a Mirage. Even under $8k, I would rather buy a better used car.

Having said that, I would very much like to inspect one up close, fondle it and drive it. It's a car that interests me. It's a modern car really built and aimed at 3rd-world counties, which is something we don't often get to see here.

The 2017 looks significantly better.

Kind of interested in this $8000 car, my gf likes tiny cars but has no interest in a payment.
