Did it fit properly? The kinks in the media suggest compression more to me than deformation due to use.

Update: I've not started the truck since this oil change so decided why not pop the filter back off & inspect it. As mentioned I torqued to 16 ft lbs when I installed it. I just took it out today to take a pic to see if it deformed any from installation alone. I can confirm now there is no issue with installation & the wavy pleats are coming from pressures during usage.

I missed that at first

It has some wrinkles after use.

The oil filter lid says 18ft lbs of torque but I've always done 16 just to prevent some crushing. Not sure if it helps any though.

After this discovery I've decided to just torque the oil filter cap to the required 18 ft lbs vs 16 ft lbs I was doing previously.
