Pulled the engine and oil pan to change oil dipstick tube flange o ring. First time I pulled this engine 600,000 miles. Looks very clean, cross hatch bright and clean. Since about 100,000 miles or so have been doing 10,000 mile ocis. good compression all cylinders. donaldson filters.

The oil history is (roughly):
Pennzoil long life 15w40 first ~100,000
Mobil 1 tdt until ~350,000
Motorcraft 5w40 350,000 to 600,000

2-3 cans mos2 since almost the beginning. No mos2 "sludge" anywhere in engine or pan for those wondering.

Is Motorcraft same as Phillips 66 Shield Choice?

10K miles OCI?
no typo? Maybe 10K feet :)

Very impressive. I hope you aren't rebuilding it (yet). Sounds like it will go a long way yet.

Hope mine makes it that long! They oughta last forever considering how little power they make stock...

haha.. true. This one was chipped since the first month or two. Same chip for 20+ years, always ran great so never wanted to change anything. It's a diablo ~ 70hp chip; those weren't the best, but, on this truck it always ran great low egt's, great milage so no need to change.

No, no plans to rebuild it. would like to go a million before rebuild.

I am unsure whether th MC is the same as phillips, It would be interesting to find out because I would use that if it was cheaper.

Is this engine easy on oil in general?

never considered MC but after seeing your pictures and 10K OCI, I am very impressed.

Looking good!
Diesel fuel in the oil is an excellent cleaner ;)

I'm only half kidding, my last diesel without EGR was looking very clean like that too. Modern diesels with fancy aftertreatment stuff, less so.

Still, that Motorcraft 5W40 looks like good stuff.

My neighbor has one in a E series van that has a bit over 500k on it. Hes never done anything to the engine or transmission other than basic maintenance. He changed the transmission fluid at least once a year sometimes twice depending on how many miles he was running. He used to use the van to haul freight for a local trucking company. He is retired now but said he wouldn't be afraid to drive anywhere in that van.

Is it normal for diesels to look that clean inside??
IME, they stay clean, and look clean when you get the soot laden oil off of the surfaces. But the pics from op are incredible because of how shiny bright the metal is.
