'67 Cougar, 289 CI oil.

Any consideration for M1 Classic 10W30? Saw it at autzone a couple weeks ago and thought that it would be a good oil to try in my M117 powered Mercedes 560SEL at some point.
 
Use it. It was made for flat tappet motors. I’ve used their 10w30 on my Chevy 350 for years, original Brad Penn and the DA product, Penn Grade 1. Summit sells 5 quart jugs about $36. Buy 3 to get free shipping. Mobil 1 Classic good too but $$$$. $12-13/quart way much but synthetic. Walmart sells 5 quart VR1 conventional $27. 67-68 Cougar great looking car.
 
I would use it. Dad put a lot of miles on a 71 302 in a F100 when I was a little kid. Worked it hard, hauling too much pulling too much. Never had an oil problem with whatever oil they were selling in the 80’s and 90s. I think it got parked when I was in college in the mid 90s because it finally rusted completely away. I think it still ran.
 
Use it up. Once it's gone, switch to a Euro 0W-40 or 5W-40 like Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 0w40, Windsors aren't hard on oil and yours sounds extremely mild. Another option is Delvac 1 5W-40, if that's easier to get (but I doubt it).
 
No cam card, it is fairly stock by the feel if the engine, not lopy, feels stock to me, nothing like my 68 street fun car.. Has the stock stamped style rockers, as I pulled the valve covers to replace with finned aluminum. I would not imagine there are anything other than stock springs.
A 289 will lope early, so if you are getting a smooth idle, it’s safe to say this is in the 260 or less advertised duration range— near stock.
 
I'd use the Penn Grade in it.
Would this make a good emergency stash ?

When I think "Penn Grade", it's not oil like this, which is a standard synthetic blend SQ type oil. This is nothing like the good high ZDDP stuff being discussed in this thread.
Did I say it was - pretty simple question with oil getting hard to find …
 
I can’t add to the conversation really. But grew ip with V8’s. All my dad used was Castrol 20W50. Now the knowledge about oils wasn’t out there like today. This is the 1970’s and 80’s. We had Chevy 400 sb . Ford 390’s and ford big block 427 & 428. But here is my cougar. I bought it and it has a 302 in it. Life happened and I sold it before I fixed it up. I want to put a mild 351W in it. It was a 67
