6 Month oil Changes/ Syn or Dino?

My Opinion:

1st Choice > Amsoil Synthetic & Amsoil Filter once per year
[possibly a Wix filter because of the low mileage]

2nd Choice > Amsoil XL & Wix or Mopar Filter twice per year

3rd Choice > Any Name Brand Synthetic & Wix or Mopar Filter twice per year.

The 1st Choice is probably the cheapest one for me since it includes only one trip to the garage.
But I don't know if I feel safe with the same oil in the cranckase and filter for a full year so I might go with 2nd or 3rd choice. thanks!

If your going to change it every six months I would use Full Synthetic..My wife drives her 07 4.6 Grand Marquis as much as you do during the week..But there is a Diner we like thats 60 miles away..All highway driving..So we go there every week rain or shine in the Marquis..We use Motorcraft 5W20 Full Synthetic in it changed out every six months or 5K miles.

Definitley take it out at least once a week when traffic is light and give it a good run..At one time I worked 70 miles away [each way] and put on 350K miles on my 88 Crown Vic..It was the best running car ever..

An occasional drive long enough to get it fully warmed and boil off any condensation is a good idea. Even once a month would be helpful. Even without, once a year with synthetic would be my recommendation.

I think the "drive it on highway to burn off fuel dilution" is over hyped and does not account for all the gas in the oil. When in doubt;change it out. 6 month oci w/synthetic.

Friends father had 2 of these (1979 and 1982) as sales cars, and went well over 200k miles on each, with few problems. The '79, I think, was even the miniscule 255 V-8 they had briefly, while the '82 was a 351....

I actually have a very similar case with my 2003 Dakota 4.7L. I've been driving less than 300 miles a month for the last year, and I was concerned about fuel dilution since I'm really just driving 7 miles one way to and from work.

I had 8 months and 1,600 miles on the Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 that I just sent in for analysis. They said it looked great (just a trace of fuel in the oil) and that it'd be fine to go for a full year. That was with Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 and a Pure One oversized filter.
Blackstone's exact words as follows:

"Not to worry. Despite all the city driving, you're not getting any excessive fuel in the oil. You've got
just a trace here, which is perfectly acceptable. We consider anything up to 2.0% (and often more than that)
to be normal, so as long as you're around that level, we won't think the city driving is a problem. Wear
improved a lot, but that's because you changed this oil at just 1538 miles. The last sample had 6100 miles
on it. You don't need to stay this conservative, if you don't want. Yearly (or possibly even less often) oil
changes sholud be fine."

An oil extractor pump is another option. Sucks the oil out through the dipstick tube and refill with fresh oil. You can do it right in the WalMart or auto store parking lot and recycle the oil there too.

Absolutely fantastic cars. I love my Lincoln. My dad loved it and that's why he bought a new one

Talk about a car that is low-maintenance and will go 700+ thousand Km with relative ease (Taxi's). And these things are typically driven pretty hard too. Cop cars are another good example.

I think I found a solution......
6 months (winter months) use synthetic and the other 6 months(summer months) use dino.
Would that be ok? I would most likely be using Pennzoil products (5W-20 as specified by Chrysler)

Synthetic oil changes are really overprice in CANADA. I know that back in the days you weren't suppose to switch once you went to synthetic but it's ok now, right? Thanks for your help!

Then just used the Pennzoil 5w20 conventional all year. There's not THAT much difference in performance if the price is too out of whack.

Modern conventional SM oils will run 6 months/2500 miles easy -- even if it's all city driving. No difference in wear, engine cleanliness between a synthetic and conventional at those low mileage's.

Any off-the-shelf synthetic will run you 1 year/5k miles. Conventionals could likely handle that too, but if the 5k was all city short tripping, you might be pushing it a little.

That's what I'm doin' by default. Got a free dealer fill of conventional in June and plan to run it 3500 till about 10/1. Got a WM jug of PP ready to lock and load on 10/1 for next 3500 to about 4/1.
