5yr. Old Royal Purple Stash>Use Or Lose>?

Just curious...

Neighbor gave me a heads-up, on his garage sell.

He has a a case of (12qts.) Royal Purple 5-30, and a case (12qts.) of Royal Purple transmission fluid. Plus, an additional three quarts of TF.

They are about 5yrs. old. I saw his bill-of-sale, and the TF cost over $100 alone!

He told me I can BOTH (all!) for $20, plus a K&N oil filter, that apps-correct for my Police Interceptor.

I'm getting a newer (used) Crown Vic, but don't want to use fluids that could not be 100%. I took note, that Ford now specs 5-TWENTY, rather than 5-30 for the P/I.

Any help appreciated!

At this price, you are 'stealing' this oil from him, in the true sense of the word!

actually, all of the additives are oxidized and also outdated. its probably SF oil and wont meet SL/SM stds. and since its a hazardous material, it needs to be disposed of properly, which can be expensive! I'll do everyone a favor: ship it to me freight prepaid and I will dispose of it through my safetykleen account here at no additional cost to you. just trying to be neighborly.

go ahead and use the 5w30 in the Ford with confidence. it will be fine. more than fine. Ford did not change the tolerances in the V8's when they "switched" from 5w30 to 5w-20. but you would want to make sure the transmission fluid met the spec you need for your transmission.

I'm running 10 y/o Pennzoil Long Life in my bikes, and the oil looks like new from the jugs.

I think it was Horsepower TV ,about 5 years ago.The took a a mid 90's camaro,dino'd it to get the horsepower.Then they replaced all the drivetrain fluids with RP.The new dino showed an 8 horsepower gain.sorry to change the subject .Just wandering if RP was the reason.

But it got even better. At the bottom of the pile was another case of Royal Purple 5-20!!! The K&N filter is close to being worth $20, so I am walking across the street with 12 qts. of 5-30, 12 qts. of 5-20, and 16 qts., of ATF. There was a note on the ATF from his son, stating that this Mercon, was to address "shudder" probs.
