5w30 or 10w30 to replace SAE30

Which weight should I run in my push mower? I’m plan on running full synthetic Valvoline maxlife. I’m in Rhode Island so only using it in the summer. Thanks

I've had 5w-30 synthetic in my ope for a long time with 0 issues. Either one would be fine to include the HDEO OilReport mentioned. Small engines just aren't that picky in my experience.

The hotter you get from freezing, the difference between SAE 30, 10w-30, and 5w-30 closes up.

The Kohler engine on my mower recommends 10w-30 or SAE 30 in summer and 5w-30 for winter, but the B&S engine on my pressure washer calls for 10w-30 or SAE 30 in summer, but recommends full synthetic 5w-30 for all temperatures.

I currently have full synthetic 5w-30 in both for the Dexos cert and consolidation without issue.

Either SAE 30 or 10W30.
The push mower will be fine either way.
Just follow whatever grade the manufacturer recommends in the least expensive API approved oil available.
As has been mentioned, small engines aren't picky.
Save your wallet the additional stress.

Pull starts are significantly easier with 5w30 / 10w30 over straight 30. I currently am using left over (new) T5 10w30 in my pull start OPE's but have used 5w30 and 0w30 (when I have had it available in my stash).

Unless it's a snowblower I don't think there's much difference between a 5w-30 and 10w-30. I use 5w-30 in everything I own just to keep it simple.

I run ST syn 10w-30. My GCV 160 on my push mower specifies 10w-30 so I run that in it plus my briggs 190cc pressure washer.

I know 10w30 is easier to pull than SAE 30 so you may be right, especially in the fall when it's time to mulch the leaves in 40f.

For me weather permitting, 15W40 works in everything including lawn mowers, garden tractors and those vehicles calling for XW20.
A 5 gallon pail is under $50
