It's quite possible, but nobody knows. PU has only been available since early this year.

Hi Loris, and welcome to BITOG.

To answer your original question, a typical 5W-20 oil is lighter than a 5w30 at ALL temperatures you will encounter. The 5W-20 will provide better lubrication upon start-up and until the oil reaches normal operating temperature.
The only advantage of the heavier 5w30 oil is when the oil is up to full operating temperature. Whether you need the thicker oil depends on many factors including how you drive your car; i.e, how hot does the oil in your car actually get.
Since you don't know the answer to that question, you should stick to the 5w30 oil grade recommended by Nissan.

Nissan recommends 5W30, but will Pennzoil Ultra 5W20 work safely? Once it's broken in, i'm thinking of going to synthetic at the first oil change interval of 6K.

doesn't staying in-warranty win here? I'd say nearly any 5w30 works for you here. I'd go synthetic too, but other than that maybe you should test one out and then another, etc. See which performs best in your car.

Yes, warranty coverage is paramount. There are TONS of good 5w30s out there. Nissan is pretty lax on what it has to be...you're lucky.
