We currently have 2x 1.5L turbo Hondas so I bought a bunch of 5w-30, mostly Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. Trading the CRV on a 26 Sienna and wondering if this is good to use there or I should spend a few bucks on some 0w-16/20 stock instead. Van WILL be short tripped a bunch so I’m leaning with the 5w-30 being ok, but want to make sure there’s no weird oil pump or vvt issues to come of this.

No. If there were any “weird oil pump or vvt issues” then they would be present every time the engine was operated at any temperature other than normal operating temperature. Which here in the north would be a significant portion of the time in winter. Or for that matter, most every time any engine is started anywhere.

You’ve been reading too much on the Internet. Many threads address this goofy notion.

I would not use 5w-30 in a toyota hybird especially if you dirve around around town much and do short trips. These things struggle to get oil temperature up in warmer weather and it is worse in the winter months. The lighter weight oils are fine in toyota hybirds.

I have read several posts here that warm up between lighter and heavier weight oils warm up pretty much at the same rate. In fact heavier weight oils may warm up even faster under certain conditions.

Thicker oil always warms up faster. Whether that warms up the engine any faster is another discussion.

Everyone is right that it won’t hurt anything to use a heavier oil, but…..it’s under warranty and I would use the recommended 0w-16/20. You’re spending $30-40k on a new vehicle so don’t worry about using up a hundred dollars worth of oil.

The Honda 1.5L turbo engines are notorious for fuel dilution. Use the 5W-30 to help compensate for the loss of viscosity.
