5W-20 Question

I just bought a 2014 Ford F150 with the 5.0 L V8.

I am going to be towing out of state often pulling a 6X12 trailer loaded down.

I have a bunch of AMSOIL Signature Series 0w20. Can I use the 0W-20 instead of the Ford recommended 5W-20?

Also is WIX a good oil filter for the F150?

Of course you can use 0w-20 instead of 5w-20 but i would stick with the OEM engine oil filter.

Amsoil is a strong oil, no doubt. Wix has an excellent reputation for quality. I'd still use a Fram ToughGuard in that application, but Wix is good.

AMSOIL Signature Series 0w20 instead of 5w20? Absolutely!

Welcome to the F150 5.0 club! Wix are good, but you can't go wrong with MC (and MC are better IMO).

My first oil change used a MC filter, but am planning to step it up again and use an Amsoil from here on and now have two in stock.

If you do used oil analysis we will have to compare results down the road.

ASM is not API approved. You might want to stick with one that is during warranty period

That being said, I used ASM when my B2300 was still under warranty.

Not a concern since Amsoil will pick up the tab if the failure is oil related.

I guess I am the odd ball, but I wouldn't use 0w20 in anything I use to tow heavy loads. I use 5w30 in my Hemi, that is 5w20 rated. I tow a 24' trailer and at the combo weight of about 16,000 lbs. I couldn't relax about that thin of a oil, up against the bearings working that hard. I have even used 10w30 in the summer months, without any los of fuel mileage. I heard Dodge re-speced 5w30 for towing. My question is, why is it 5w20 in regular vehicles and 5w30 in the high performance (more stressed) out same engine models?

The pick up the tab is the failure is a result of the oil, not if it is oil related.

Amsoil doesn't offer warranty protection on other people's products. (e.g. engine) If a engine failure were to occur and one was seeking recourse from the engine mfg, best to have maintained it IAW their guidance to get best results.
