5qt jugs now 1gal?

So, when did the usual 5-qt jugs of oil become 1-gallon jugs?
I was at Meijer today and saw a really good sale on jugs of MaxLife Blend. Since one of our cars was due, I picked it up. It wasn't until I was ready to pour that I discovered that this was a 1-gallon jug, and not the normal 5-qt jug. Luckily I had a spare quart to finish-off the 4.25 qts that go into the car.

Is this a trend? Or was this a "special purchase" on the part of Meijer? I thought the price was too good...and I know why, now.

It just varies. Depending on where you buy it and which specific oil, it may be packaged as 4-qt or 5-qt jug.

almost all of them at Walmart are 5qts.

I thought Walmart was the only place that had the 5qt jugs. All the parts stores around here have mostly gallon sizes or they have some oddball sizes.

Meijer has always had gallon jugs.
Walmart has usually had 5 qt jugs, although the dual-rated fleet oils tend to come in gallon jugs.
Mejier charges a little under $20.00 for M1 gallons, while Walmart gets $22.00 for 5 Qt jugs.
Some of the auto parts chains have really oddball jug capacities.
The moral of the story is that you should look carefully when you buy.

Vatozone now has what they call "5+" quart jugs...I think it's actually 5.28 qts, which is 5 litres.
