Nice lookin ride!
My wife and I were just talking about the old steering wheels having the little bumps on the side facing away from the driver to help with grip...

One of my paper route customers had his'n hers '57 Belairs in those colors. Hers was a convertible. One of my school mate's folk has his and hers. '56 what 210 sedan and a matching 4 dr wagon in a more sedate 2 tone blue.

Beautiful car - 283? I'm surprised to see it's equipped with seatbelts - front lapbelts were not standard here until the '63 model year. But Ford had tried selling safety c. 1956, and perhaps Chevy followed for '57.

I dont know what it had. it has a vortec 350/700r4 now.

Ford marketed seat belts for the two-seater Thunderbird using the spin that it keeps you in your seat during spirited driving.

My first car in high school was a 57 Chevy. It was the 210 model, 235.5 CID L6 with 2-speed Powerglide. I got 12 mpg.

Yes, but when you're dealing with that kind of power, you have to pay at the pump!

I think you're right - I was sure it was front lap belts for '63; and lap & shoulder belts for front seats, and lap belts for rear seats for '68. But I think I was assuming that our (Canadian) standards were based on American ones. There was US federal legislation for 1968 requiring seat belts for all passenger positions.

Per this article, though, seatbelts were mandatory in all new cars manufactured or sold in Canada after December 1, 1963. On that basis, I imagine that manufacturers equipped all '64s (even those manufactured sold before December 1, 1963) with seat belts, and it's likely that they did the same for '63s as some of them would have been sold new after the deadline.

FWIW, my '62 Chevy II had no seatbelts at all, my '63 Biscayne had front lap belts only, and my '68 Impala had lap belts in the rear and (separate) lap & shoulder belts up front.
