Getting back to my question regarding the 51356 vs 51357 filters. They seem to be about the same, with the difference being the 51357 has an anti-drain back valve on the clean (ouput) side of the filter also. My question is, could this be a better filter choice vs a 51356? My specific application has the filter vertical mounted, thread side up (filter hangs). In theory, wouldn't this clean side adbv keep the oil passages filled better (from the out put of the filter up through the engine) and allow for quicker oil pump up during starting? or could their be any negative effects from using this style filter?

I don't know how much advantage there would be in a vertical mounting situation. The outlet ADBV in the filters I've seen (only mentioned as a feature on one Oz company that has since been absorbed by some larger filter man) was to prevent the filter from draining forward. On that filter (the Oz outfit) it was not exactly like a second check valve in line. It was (sorta = in concept) more like the combo valve on an Ecore. That is, the forward biasing of the inlet ADBV opened the interior ADBV in some manner. I really didn't grasp the particulars of the mechanism, but that's sorta how it allegedly worked. It wasn't to hold the oil column in the engine. It was to keep the filter full.

The anti drain back valve is on the outside of the filter underneath the small inlet holes where the dirty oil goes in. The ADBV keeps the dirty oil from draining back into the engine on the hole down mounted oil filters.

I have both the Wix 51357 and a Kia equivalent. I was going to try one out on my next lof, just wanted to make sure that there are no negative effects, or potential problems from doing so. I will cut it open after I use it.

actually, this filter has your normal adbv, and an addition one in the center tube of the filter. If you look inside the filter you can not see any filter element, or flow holes or anything. Here, take a look
