Proper? What's improper about my paint job? If I told I did that paint job with a spray gun, would that then make it proper? Or is it the low price that makes it improper?

I think it looks fabulous! Even if it has a few minor imperfections, you can't see that in the pictures and most of the people driving around you will not see the car up super close anyhow. No need to spend more than you need to when you got such great results with this simple process. Kudos my good man!

5 Star Synthetic Enamel Hardener 5132. Other people have had good luck with normal acrylic enamel hardener, but I wanted to use something that was designed to mix with alkyd enamels like Rustoleum. I mixed it 8 parts paint to 1 part hardener and then let that sit 15 minutes (sweat-in time) before final thinning with the mineral spirits and reducer.

I painted a parts car with Rustoleum Gloss black (just the front end, a fender and hood). Looked like this:

That was more than 5 years ago. It looks like [censored] now, but still way better than a cheap commercially available paint job (MAACO, etc). It would have came out better if I had used a hardener. I used a HF paint gun that was nothing special. I just thinned the Rustoleum with NAPHTA and [censored] it like that.

my dad told me story. when he came home from WW2 he got a 1935 plymouth, in BAD need if a paint job. beeing very pore he painted it with brushes. he was accused of using a broom.
