I saw a Valvoline ad on TV the other night and it said 1/2 of NASCAR used Valvoline. So if 1/2 use Mobil 1 and 1/2 use Valvoline, that's 100%.

I think someone forgot to count all the Hendricks, Childress, and Gibbs cars.

I just love advertising.

Even IF the 50% were, it would be the Mobil 1 R formula that isn't available at Wally World. The "R" formulation has a ton of zinc and phosphorous and wouldn't meet API SM or GF-4.

Remember that you have Hendrick's using Q plus numerous teams using Joe Gibbs oil also.

I was just doing some math on this.

Hendrick Racing has 4 cars on Quaker State:
Jr., Johnson, Gordon, and Mears.

Childress Racing has 4 cars on Pennzoil:
Harvick, Burton, Bowyer, and Wimmer.

Gibbs Racing has 3 cars on Gibbs Oil:
Stewart, Hamlin, and Busch.

Ganassi Racing has 3 cars on Texaco:
Franchitti, Montoya, and Sorenson

Who else is using something other than Mobil 1 or Valvoline?

Here are the only Valvoline cars that I can come up with.

Evernham Racing has 3.

Rousch Racing has 5.

I might add IMHO that was the dumbest thing Shell did when they gave up their Pennzoil sponsorship of Rousch Racing to sponsor Childress Racing.

I think 50% use M1, the rest are Shell, JGR and Valvoline.

OK, it was twenty two years ago, but I well remember watching the Bathurst 1000 touring car race here in Australia and one of the euro TWR Jaguars had an oil consumption issue and was consuming a fair bit.
The TWR Jags had 'Castrol' emblazoned all over them and all over the drivers and mechanics overalls.

The car in question wheeled into the pits for a top up and what went into the engine ?

Motul ! They didn't even hide the name on the cans !

Valvoline is barely used in Sprint Cup. Ashland Oil may pay the crew chiefs to say it's the number one choice in their personal cars but that's about it.

Valvoline R&D blend is used in NASCAR along with JGR/Shell R&D and Mobil R&D. This was right from the mouth of a Joe Gibb's member.

Yeah, Mobil One WHAT? There are plenty of M1 branded products. Doesn't have to be engine oil. What about bearing grease or that spray lube? All Mobil has to do is give a couple cases of their spray lube to each team and they can say "Mobil One is used by 100% of NASCAR teams".

Also, many teams are part of M1's contingency award program and sport the M1 decal on the car. They don't have to use the oil in their engines to be eligible for the money, just fly the colors on the front fender.

Over 50% do use M1 engine oil in Nascar. Sorry. I know many hate the 800 lb gorilla but it is what it is.

You're right in that they don't have to use it. I guess they chose too.

Like I said before, even if they do, it's the Mobil 1 R that you can't buy off the shelf. I would contact various engine builders in order to find out what they really use. Team Penske would be one of various teams who would use it.
