I was wondering if there'd be anything wrong with trying a 50/50 mix of different oil weights, specifically Mobil-1 AFE 0W-30 and AFE 0W-20. I want to try a little bit thinner oil to see if it helps reduce the valvetrain noise I've always had with this engine (Chrysler SOHC 3.2L V6), as the 0W-30 has helped shut it up quite a bit at startup compared to the 10W-30 it was previously using, but I don't want to go right to full 0W-20.

I'm not very concerned about a little more wear on the bottom-end, it was rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago after it spun a main bearing last year (all new pistons, crankshaft, bearings, etc), the car will probably die a rusty death in the next few years anyway and I never really rev it up very high. Although I think that may have been part of why it spun a bearing at only 130,000 miles; young dummy me was lugging the engine (got a few extra MPG in the city because it could coast due to the reduced speed loss when off the throttle) without understanding what that does to the bearings.

Needless to say I stopped doing that.

Shouldn't be an issue.

Some people will tell you not to mix between different brands, because then you're mixing different oil additive packages and might reduce the overall quality level of the oil. But mixing M1 AFE 0w-20 and M1 AFE 0w-30 shouldn't be a problem at all. Give it a shot. Worse case scenario it doesn't work for you and you don't do it again.

You can even run 2-3 different brands of oils. No worry whatsoever.

I have a vehicle with almost 300K that's been on blends it's entire life.
Still going strong with little loss (1 qt) between changes. No smoke either.

The secret is using name brand oils and smart, timely oil changes. (For instance) I do not buy oils that darken prematurely. So I maintain an engine that keeps a clear dipstick for at least 1K of every oil change.

Don;t let your engine get dirty, messy or low on oil. It will then endure a long lifetime, even when mixing oil brands.

yeah, you're golden. it will just be a "heavy" 0w20.
the last time i did a 50/50 mix, it was a bit of a frankenbrew, made up of the 1/2 qt leftovers from 9 oil changes(2 cars, each 4.5qt) mix of NextGen Maxlife, Pyb,Formula Shell,MS5k,Meijer Conv, NextGen Conv, & Eco-power Synblend.

I've Since Changed cars, but my buddy still has the same one.
4.5qts 5w30 for him, my "new" car calls for 5.5qts 5w20.
so mine gets 5 qts of 5w20, and 1/2 qt of 5w30.
no complaints yet!
