I recently purchased a Deere backhoe with all new pins and bushings. What grease should I use for the pins and bushings?
I use Schaeffers #274 (3% moly) now as my general purpose grease on the farm. Would I benefit any by going to a 5% moly grease for the backhoe? I have several grease guns so the 1 grease 1 gun is not much of an issue. Also would there be a better general purpose grease for the tractors/combines/OTR trucks than #274?

The Schaeffer's #274 is a very good grease for your farm use, but if they do make a 5% moly grease, I would use it on the Deere backhoe. The extra moly is great for the shock load the bucket pins take. It is a requirement for Cat machinery.

Another great new product is the new Amsoil commercial grease they just came out with. I know several farmers and construction companies here in WI that really like this new grease.

Tough to beat the Schaeffer's #274 Ep grease. The 5% moly version will give you a modest benefit over the 3%. Schaeffer's #238 grease adds some additional tackifier for this application, though this is not as versatile of grease. Some guys dig on Schaeffer 229 and the 221...depending on the application. Each to their own, all will treat you good.
This is a good chart explaining the difference betweeen a few of Schaeffers greases.
