I just finished installing a sonnax zip kit along with all new oem solenoids into my 1998 ford ranger 3.0. Transmission has 245k miles on it. The kit mostly contains o ringed end plugs. It did have me drill out some holes in the separator plate but I believe that basically brings it to the latest ford iteration. I did install the optional stronger spring in the boost valve which says it will raise pressure by 5-6psi which doesnt seem like much to me so i used it. The transmission seems to shift fine. All gears work and torque converter locks. Kickdown works fine. It just shift much harsher than i was expecting. Before at light to half throttle it would shift smooth. At full throttle it would shift a little firmer as it should. Now 1-2 shift is quite firm. Its not super harsh but the whole truck feels the shift. 2-3 is firm but not as firm as 1-2. Now 3-4 is also firm but the difference is it shifts so quickly from 3-4. Not quick as in it shift early but when its at the appropriate time for 4th to be commanded it will immediately engage 4th. Before all of this was done 4th did shift fairly quickly but i guess maybe now with the firmer shifts i can feel it more? I was hoping the transmission would shift maybe a little firmer than before doing all this but mainly i thought it would be much the same just with less internal fluid leaks in the valve body from wear and new solenoids with no wear. It kind of feels like I installed a shift kit for firmer shifts. I have not put a pressure gauge on the transmission yet. Basically picture your wife driving this after you convince her how great it will be but then she hates driving it because its to harsh.
