I will be taking delivery of a 1993 4L60E core to rebuild for my 1500, as mine is getting a tad "twitchy" and am in the process of putting together my build list. I have built a number of earlier, 3-speed transmissions, and it seems that some things never change. There has always been "solutions in search of a problem" in the transmission parts suppliers offerings, and this requires a person to wade through a fair amount of information/grandiose hyperbole, especially with the 4-speed automatics.

My question concerns the front planetary assembly. I will be rebuilding the rear planetary using the Sonnax 77731-RK kit but I am wondering if there a rebuild kit available for the front planetary assembly. If not, are the separate components available to do this? and what part numbers would I need? If the gears are good, I would need washers, needles, pins, and the captured bearing. Now I am wondering if any of the Sonnax 77731-RK parts will work in the front planetary.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!, and Happy Holiday's!!

I don't know of any kit/parts for the front carrier other than the captured bearing, The rear carrier tends to wear a lot faster than the front & can usually put it back it service.

Thank you sir. I checked Sonnax, but they only have parts for the rear carrier. Would you by chance know the number for the captured bearing? Maybe I am just being paranoid (or my OCD is kicking in again), but the thought of not replacing that bearing and just doing a thorough inspection of the carrier is getting to me :) (I am the same way with bushings. "I dont care how GOOD they look, if they had a shaft turn in them even once, they are USED")

Could you recommend a place that could either machine my pump or provide a already remanufactured pump assembly? My experiences have all been with the simpler, earlier, "iron bodied" pumps, and I am most definitely, out of my comfort zone here.

I thank you again for having taken the time to disseminate your knowledge to places that help others. I know it takes time.

I'm that way with bushings!

Not all Components experience the same amount of load & shock. While I've seen some bad front carriers in 700R4/4L60E platform units, It's few & far between.
The Front Carrier & Sun Gear are the first components to receive lube oil back from the cooler circuit which helps.

I would get the unit tore down & inspected before making hard part decisions, GM made that pump for only 3 years & can be hard to get.

Thank you. I should be taking delivery of the 93 4l60E core this weekend. She will get a good exterior cleaning, endplay check, and then the teardown begins. :) Have a great weekend!!
