What are your trans temps when towing and regular driving. I don't tow with my 21 and I usually see 150's and sometimes 160's but never 170 or more. Also is this the sierra or suburban.

So you did change it? I assume you exchanged the fluid if it was hooked up.
to clarify,..I personally didn't change it, I paid to have it changed at the dealer who hooked it up to a BG machine and exchanged all the old fluid out for new, I asked them to set aside a sample so I could look at it.

Change the fluid at least every 30k miles on any GM 10L or Ford 10R transmissions. These all have issues with the cheaply made valve bodies. Any dirt or fluid contamination will ruin the solenoid bores, and cause fluid pressure loss, which will result in loss of gears and further damage to the transmission.

I work at a ford dealer, and we have so many 10R transmissions needing new valve bodies and stuff, because of poor fluid maintenance, but also it’s from bad engineering.

Yeah I watched a YT video with the nextgen transmissions and he was **** talking the 10L80 and 10R80 pretty hard on the junk valve bodies

A lot of it is design issues. A couple being the CDF drum and the P3 planet. If you keep the fluid clean, have all the updated hard parts and latest software programming, it should last a long time. All of these transmissions (at least fords) will have issues from MY 17-22. Updated CDF drum came out late 22

the primary problem from what I hear on the GM side(10L80) is the valve body is junk/bad design

I have more experience with the fords than GM but usually valve body problems arise from fine metal particles that contaminate the fluid and cause the valves to hang up. I can’t imagine it’s much different for GM. Metal can be from the torque converter, P3 planet and steel plates typically.
