talked to a guy today with a 95 s10 4.3 v6 with 468000 miles, original engine never touched, guy bought the truck brand new in 95.. just regular tune ups, and oil changes every 3000 miles, said he changed the transmission fluid and filter once a year. i asked him what kind of oil he used and he said castrol 20w50 year round, forgot to ask him what kind of filter he used tho.

Kudos to that person. That kind of mileage on that kind of truck is impressive.
^^doubt that using 20w50 made a big difference in fuel. That's a good amount of miles but the 4.3 will live forever if cared for.
I bet Castrol High Mileage 10w40 would be better for him.

I`ll say this,Castrol GTX 20W50 was imo one of the best,if not the best oil made back in the day. Wonder if it`s kept the same formula? I did two uoa`s,and the one where I was using 20W50 was slightly better than the one where I`d used 10W40.

that's actually the most miles I've heard out of ANY engine. Previously the record I heard was about 400k out of a Honda Accord.

in this area we have quite a few 4.3L s-10's used in auto parts delivery chains. they seem to get very high mileage if cared for.
That's some serious mileage. My dads 2000 S10 4cyl has about 260k on it. But besides oil changes my dad does no preventative maintenance until things fail. I doubt he will hit mileage like that!
WOW!! that is a lot of miles!!--Hey! the circumference of the earth is just about 25,000 miles-- that's a lot of round trips in that little S10.---He'll probably hit half a million in no time.

Those 4.3 engines are good ones. We had delivery trucks with them and they all went went over 200K with no issues and one finally got sold at 320K miles on it.
Most UPS trucks have 4.3s under the hood. I talked to the maintenance manager, and they are very particular about maintenance and catch things before they cause breakdowns. He said the 4.3 is a very tough motor, and that they have very few issues with them having issues prematurely.

They do not idle for nothing regardless of how short the stop is.

I also imagine they get a more heavy duty spec starter than most others would get in a non commercial vehicle.

A high mileage vehicle is always interesting to see. Honestly, I am more impressed when I see an older S10 with no rust. I liked the trucks, but never bought one because of always seeing so many trucks with rust issues.
The 4.3L is an outstanding motor. I had a 1990 GMC 1500 and I always pulled way too much weight. The rear end actually gave out long before my transmission and motor had an issue. I have no doubt's that Chevy's 4 cylinder can put on as many miles as well. It is used in the postal service's LLVs with fair success.
