I actually ended up selling it to my next door neighbor

He took it to a mechanic and had the oil pressure switch replaced (didn't fix oil pressure light) and the mechanic told him it needed a fan clutch, brakes (we knew beforehand about the brakes), and control arm bushings. I trust the mechanic since they're the ones who I take my VW to. With all the work it needed I sold it to him for $5,000. Was $1,200 in repairs. He also had the oil changed and after all the work the oil pressure light didn't come back on yet.

I still think it's funny the neighbor bought it, so I see it basically everyday.

Does the car require premium gas? That eats up a significant chunk of the savings, at least around here. Premium is 40 cents a gallon more than regular. I have 50 mile each way commute to work in my 15 Civic, 90% highway, but two mountains each way to traverse. Tanks have been from 41.2-44.5 over 12k miles. Computer underestimates MPG by about 1.5-2. 5 speed manual, if it had a 6th gear, that would help a lot. No DI and the Civic is probably a bit heavier than the 3 (I assume its a 3?). I drive a little slower than you, 65-70, but AC almost always on.

Before I "upgraded" to all season tires on the Focus, I could hit mid 40s all day if I kept the speed below 55. Now ... not so much.

I regularly achieve that on the highway (65 mph) on summer gas. Winter gas makes a big difference.

Maybe if you used "Shell V-power nitro plus" gasoline you could hit the 50 MPG mark! (End sarcasm)

One member claims it improved his MPG by 20 percent.

I can see that type of mileage with no sweat in highway driving in my Cruze. Over 116k miles that car has averaged about 40 mpg. Not too shabby.

I managed 62.7 today going to work and back, including a lot of traffic jams and a dpf regen.

that's imperial MPG though, don't know how that translates to US.

Highest so far has been 79 MPG.

I'm using Gulf diesel, which is the cheapest non-supermarket fuel around, barring shell fuelsave diesel in self service stations.

We have a 40mpg ecodiesel Ram sold up here! Only if you use imperial gallons though... Some of the manufacturers still advertise in MPG, but use imperial of course.
