I recently installed an Eaton RTLO18918B 2024 year model transmission. I recently found that Eaton changed the specs to a PS-386 oil. When I installed the transmission I filled it with 50wt per the older specs. I had the truck out west a couple weeks ago and struggled to keep the transmission temps under 230 even with a cooler.
I started making phone calls and was told the ps-386 is spec now and I likely got some old information when I called originally (reason for 50wt)
Will the 40wt vs 50wt have much affect on the transmission temps? What about wear and tear on the transmission?
I’ve asked why the fluid changed and most say the tolerances are tighter and they’re using different materials for the bushings in the transmission that older oils could harm.
