My Bradford White is 10 years old. I’m looking to replace it soon. Which gas 40 gallon should I go with?

If you are installing it yourself instead of calling a plumber, do yourself a favor and get another Bradford White water heater with the exact same dimensions and inlet/outlet configuration. If you choose a different brand, make sure the configuration is very close to what you currently have installed. Otherwise, you may need to do a fair amount of soldering and reconfiguration of the supply and outlet lines to make it fit. Also, there can be possible vent stack alignment issues (gas heater) or insufficient length of the power cable (electric).

I would love to get another Bradford white for the exact reason
but don’t you have to be a plumber to buy one and have it professionally installed?

If it is working fine, don't change it now. Treat it like a light bulb...no need to change it until it shows signs of impending failure.
I hear ya, but it always seems to happen at the worst times. It’ll never happen on a Saturday morning when I have plenty of time to buy one and install it

I recommend Rheem or AO Smith. Bradford White has been the most problematic for my customers and harder to deal with warranty items.

Do you have a business, or work for one that installs water heaters?

I'd love to know if it's worth the extra money to buy a unit that has a longer warranty? What is the best value?

If you buy one from a big box store or elsewhere you can have a plumber do the installation. Downside is that if there is a problem with the heater under warranty he has no obligation.
I recommend upgrading to a 10 year heater. They seem to be the sweet spot.

BTW have been in the plumbing business for decades. Recently sold my business and retired. Installed thousands of heaters.

i agree. they have had a few years of bad production. I had one where the nipple was crossthreaded......that being said bradford white make just as good as any others.

I liked rheem.....they look more attractive
